Project Description:
For over two decades Wood County Hospital has been a pioneer in the field of bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Our roots were established in 1978 when Douglas S. Hess, M.D., began performing bariatric procedures. In the mid-1980's he perfected the billiopancreatic diversion with the duodenal switch (PBD/DS) procedure at Wood County Hospital. Since then, we have performed over 2,000 bariatric procedures, helping people lose weight when all other methods have failed. The progam has attracted patients from throughout the United States and some foreign countries.
